India’s Nightingale and legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar left for her heavenly abode on Sunday morning. She died at the age of 92 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Doctor Pratit Samdani, who was treating the singer, has revealed that Lata died due to multiple organ failure. The news of her tragic demise has sent a shockwave across the entire nation. National mourning will be observed for two days following the death of Lata Mangeshkar. Also, as a mark of esteem regard to the late singer, the National Flag will fly at half-mast from February 6 to 7 throughout India.

Most of us know about Lata Mangeshkar's sister Asha Bhosle, it’s a less known fact that Lata Ji’s two younger sisters, Meena Khadkikar and Usha Mangeshkar were also singers. They both did not really taste the success that their sister and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar did in her 7 decades of career.



The receiver of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, Mangeshkar belonged to a prominent musical family, she was the eldest of five siblings. She began her career quite early at the age of 13 when her father died. Her father was classical musician Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar. Not many know, Lata Mangeshkar once fainted while recording a song. 

Also, the veteran singer never listened to her own songs and the reason will leave you shocked. She once told Bollywood Hungama that she does not listen to her own songs because if she did, she would find a hundred faults in her own singing.

Mangeshkar was born as Hema but renamed later Lata Mangeshkar after the name of the character Latika, from her father’s play Bhaww Bandhan. Early in her career, her voice was considered too thin. But after her first break, her song became a big hit and since then, there was no looking back for her.

When India lost the war to China, she sang the song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon, Zara Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Pani, India’s Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru moved to tears after hearing her voice. The song was dedicated to the soldiers who died during the war in 1962. 



Notably, Lata Mangeshkar became the first Indian to perform in the Royal Albert Hall, London. Not only this, Mangeshkar is the only Indian vocalist after MS Subbulakshmi to have won a Bharat Ratna. In her music sphere, she has made the Nation proud and has won 3 National Film Awards, 12 Bengal film Journalists, Four Best Female Playback Awards. Not only this, the legendary singer has been awarded an Honorary doctorate by Six universities including one from New York University.



Lata Mangeshkar didn't just dominate the Hindi film industry; she ruled India as a whole. In addition to recording songs in Hindi and Urdu, Lataji is said to have created music in 36 different Indian languages, including Marathi, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Bengali, and Assamese.
